Some DeVilles and Fleetwoods may experience a condition where the front centre ashtray does not close completely and may result in an improper fit to the instrument panel (I/P). This condition may be caused by:
o The cigarette lighter wiring connector interfering with the I/P close out panel.
o An ashtray interference with the I/P wiring harness.
o An ashtray interference with the A/C duct.
To diagnose and repair this condition use the following procedure:
1. Inspect for interference between the cigarette lighter connector and the I/P close out panel. If interference is found, rotate the cigarette lighter connector 180 degrees to eliminate interference.
2. Inspect for proper clearance between the rear of the ashtray to the I/P harness and to the A/C duct. Repair as necessary.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
