ADJUSTING TIRE PRESSURE DURING NEW VEHICLE PREP

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1990 E,K,V,C,D

Currently, all tires are shipped to dealers at tire pressures from 240-280 kpa (35-41 psi). The pressures are set higher at the plant primarily to assure proper bead seating. The processing pressures may be higher than the customer recommended pressures (refer to Figure 1) of 165-240 kpa (24-35 psi).

Recently we have received several comments of harsh ride which have been traced back to tire pressures. The tire pressures of these cars had not been adjusted to the tire placard specifications as required during NVI-PDI.

As part of the new car delivery process (NVI-PDI), the tire pressures are to be adjusted to the recommended tire pressure as specified on the tire placard. If the tires are not adjusted to the correct pressure, the customer may experience a harsh ride. To assure customer satisfaction it is important that the tire pressures be properly adjusted before new car delivery.
