ELECTRO STATIC DISCHARGE CAUSE FAILURE TO SUNROOF MODULE

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1990 "C" CARS

An electrostatic discharge from a vehicle occupant to the 1990 "C" car sunroof switch could damage the express open sunroof module. As a result, the sunroof would operate in the open direction only.

To eliminate the potential problem, the chrome sunroof switch button is being charged to plastic. This change took place on 10/31/89.

Servicing a vehicle which has experienced this failure mode requires replacing the chrome button switch (Buick and Oldsmobile part number 20396960; Cadillac part number 20060925) with a new plastic button sunroof switch (Buick and Oldsmobile part number 20429984; Cadillac part number 20436618) and replacing the damaged express sunroof module (Buick, Oldsmobile and Cadillac part number 12503328).

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
