INTERMITTENT TELLTALES ON DIGITAL INSTRUMENT CLUSTERS

SUBJECT: INTERMITTENT OPERATION OF TELLTALES ON DIGITAL INSTRUMENT CLUSTERS (REPLACE PRESSAC FLEX CIRCUIT)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1990 CADILLAC 'C' CAR

CONDITION:

---------- Some 1990 DeVilles and Fleetwoods equipped with a digital cluster may experience intermittent operation of telltales, especially, "Inflatable Restraint" and "Charge" indicators. Also, intermittent operation may occur on the right turn indicator.

Furthermore, a condition may occur where the left turn indicator is illuminated while signaling a right turn and visa versa while the headlights are on.

CAUSE:

------ There have been several different causes reported for these conditions, however, one known cause is the instrument cluster flex circuit.

The flex circuit vendor was changed in mid-model year as follows:

START OF PRODUCTION TO VIN #236439 ---------------------------------- Packard - Green with rounded contact area, refer to Fig. 2.

VIN #236439 TO VIN #261947

Packard - Green with rounded contact area, refer to Fig. 2 and Pressac - Blue with rounded contact area, refer to Fig. 2.

VIN #261947 AND LATER

Packard - Green with rounded contact area, refer to Fig. 2 and Pressac - Blue with square contact area, refer to Fig. 1.

The Pressac - Blue with rounded contact area are prone to connection problems with the wiring harness connector.

CORRECTION:

----------- For vehicles exhibiting the above described conditions, check for the Pressac flex circuit with rounded contact area. In addition, verify the proper terminal is in place in the wiring harness connector.

Replace Pressac flex circuits with rounded contact area with part number #25087005. These will be Pressac flex circuits, but will have the square contact areas.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
