Some 1990-1992 DeVilles, Fleetwoods, Eldorados, and Sevilles may experience a condition of an intermittent stall when put into gear and/or an intermittent hesitation or miss.
This condition may be caused by the distributor being misoriented in the block. If the distributor is installed 900 or 1800 out of position, the plug wires may still be connected so that the cylinders all get spark at the correct time; but the cam sensor will not be positioned correctly. This may cause sequential port fuel injection to be disrupted.
To determine whether the distributor is out of position, check whether the spark plug wire numbers all match the numbers moulded in the distributor cap. If not, then the distributor is misoriented.
To repair this condition refer to page 6D4-5 of the appropriate Service Information Manual and reorient the distributor as described under "If Distributor Position Is Lost". Verify that all the plug wires now connect to their proper positions as moulded in the distributor cap.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
