SERVICE MANUAL UPDATE SEC. 10 FRONT DOOR LOCK CYLINDER

SUBJECT: SMU - SECTION 10 - FRONT DOOR LOCK CYLINDER R AND R (NEW PROCEDURE)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1991-92 C AND R MODELS

The following procedure has been changed from the 1991 and 1992 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight and Touring Sedan Service Manual and the 1992 Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight Service Manual. Please use this procedure for removing or installing the front door lock cylinder.

DOOR LOCK CYLINDER - Remove or Disconnect

IMPORTANT: Door window must be in full up position.

1. Door trim panel. Refer to procedure in the Service Manual. 2. Water deflector. Refer to procedure in the Service Manual. 3. Outside door handle-to-lock mechanism rod at the lock mechanism. 4. Lock cylinder-to-lock mechanism rod at the lock cylinder. 5. Two bolts and the outside door handle from the door. 6. One nut and the lock cylinder from the outside door handle.

Install or Connect

1. Lock cylinder and nut to the outside door handle. Tighten nut to 6 N.m (53 in.lb.) . 2. Outside door handle and bolts to door. Tighten bolts to 8 N.m (71 in.lb.). 3. Lock cylinder-to-lock mechanism rod at the lock cylinder. 4. Outside door handle-to-lock mechanism rod at the lock mechanism. 5. Water deflector. Refer to procedure in the Service Manual. 6. Door trim panel. Refer to procedure in the Service Manual.
