EXCESSIVE TWIST OR FLEXING OF REAR COMPARTMENT LID

REVISION: 01/26/95

THIS BULLETIN IS BEING REVISED TO INCLUDE ADDITIONAL WARRANTY INFORMATION. *********************************************************************

SUBJECT: EXCESSIVE TWIST OR FLEXING OF THE REAR COMPARTMENT LID WHEN CLOSING FROM SIDE OF VEHICLE (REPLACE LID, TORQUE RODS AND LOCK CYLINDER)

MODELS: 1994 CADILLAC CONCOURS AND DEVILLE (BUILT PRIOR TO VIN RU291053)

CONDITION:

SOME OWNERS MAY COMMENT ON EXCESSIVE TWISTING OR FLEXING OF THE REAR COMPARTMENT LID WHEN CLOSING THE LID FROM THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE.

CAUSE:

THE GAUGE OF THE METAL IN THE LID ASSEMBLY ALLOWS FOR EXCESSIVE FLEXING.

CORRECTION:

THE REAR COMPARTMENT LID HAS A NEW DESIGN. THE ABOVE CONDITION HAS BEEN CORRECTED BY INCREASING THE THICKNESS OF THE LID INNER PANEL. IF LID REPLACEMENT IS REQUIRED ON VEHICLES BUILT PRIOR TO THE AFFECTED VIN BREAKPOINT (SEE ABOVE), THE VEHICLE MUST BE RETROFITTED WITH A NEW LID, TORQUE RODS AND LOCK CYLINDER COVER. VEHICLES BUILT AFTER THE AFFECTED VIN BREAKPOINT DO NOT REQUIRE REPLACEMENT OF THESE COMPONENTS UNLESS THEY HAVE BEEN DAMAGED.

1. REPLACE REAR COMPARTMENT LID, P/N 25634540. REFER TO SECTION 10-8 OF THE SERVICE MANUAL FOR REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE.

2. REPLACE TORQUE RODS, P/N 3549126 AND 3549127. REFER TO SECTION 10-8 OF THE SERVICE MANUAL FOR REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE.

3. REPLACE LOCK CYLINDER COVER, P/N 25636490 (DEVILLE) OR P/N 25636491 (CONCOURS). REFER TO SECTION 10-1 OF THE SERVICE MANUAL UNDER ADHESIVE MOLDING AND NAMEPLATE REPLACEMENT.

PARTS ARE CURRENTLY AVAILABLE FROM GMSPO.
