SOME OWNERS MAY EXPERIENCE A TICKING, RATTLING, KNOCK OR CLANGING TYPE NOISE FROM THE FLYWHEEL AREA OF THE ENGINE. THIS NOISE IS USUALLY LOUDEST AT IDLE AND DRIVE RANGES.
THE NOISE MAY BE CAUSED BY A CRACKED OR LOOSE FLYWHEEL. FLYWHEEL DAMAGE MAY BE CAUSED BY MISALIGNMENT OF THE ENGINE TO THE TRANSAXLE DUE TO INCORRECT ENGINE BLOCK DOWEL PIN HEIGHT AND/OR MISSING DOWEL PINS.
INSTALL THE DOWEL PIN TO A HEIGHT OF 9.5 MM FROM THE REAR BLOCK FACE (FIGURE 1). IF A DOWEL PIN HAS A HEIGHT GREATER THAN 9.5 MM FROM THE REAR BLOCK FACE, IT MUST BE DRIVEN IN TO THE CORRECT HEIGHT. REFER TO THE 1993 ELDORADO/SEVILLE SERVICE MANUAL, SECTION 6A2, FOR ENGINE FLYWHEEL REPLACEMENT PROCEDURES.
WHEN A DOWEL PIN IS REQUIRED, USE P/N 12338076.
