Removal Procedure

Caution: Place a dry chemical (Class B) fire extinguisher nearby before performing any on-vehicle service procedures. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury.

  1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief Procedure .
  2. Raise the vehicle.

  3. Object Number: 39324  Size: SH
  4. Remove the fuel filter bracket mounting bolt.
  5. Grasp the filter and one fuel pipe fitting.

  6. Object Number: 157703  Size: SH
  7. Twist quick-connect fitting 1/4 turn in each direction to loosen any dirt within fitting.
  8. Repeat for other fuel pipe fitting.

  9. Object Number: 155410  Size: SH

    Caution: Wear safety glasses when using compressed air in order to prevent eye injury.

  10. Using compressed air, blow out dirt from quick-connect fittings at both ends of fuel filter.
  11. Remove the quick connect fittings.

  12. Object Number: 12777  Size: SH
  13. Squeeze plastic tabs of male end connector.

  14. Object Number: 12778  Size: SH
  15. Pull connection apart.
  16. Repeat for the other fitting.
  17. Remove the fuel filter.

Installation Procedure

Caution: To reduce the risk of fire and personal injury, before installing a new filter, always apply a few drops of clean engine oil to both pipe ends of the filter. This will ensure proper re-connection and prevent a possible fuel leak. (During normal operation, the O-rings located in the female connector will swell and may prevent proper re-connection if not lubricated).

  1. Remove the protective caps from new filter.
  2. Install the new plastic connector retainers on filter inlet and outlet tubes.
  3. Install the filter in retainer noting the direction of flow indicated on filter.
  4. Install in same position as old filter.
  5. Install the quick connect fittings.

  7. Apply a few drops of clean engine oil to both pipe ends of the filter.

  8. Object Number: 155771  Size: SH
  9. Push connectors together to cause the retaining tabs/fingers to snap into place.

  10. Object Number: 155399  Size: SH
  11. Pull on both ends of each connection to make sure connection secure.

  12. Object Number: 39324  Size: SH
  13. Install fuel filter bracket mounting bolt.
  14. Lower the vehicle.

  15. Object Number: 41527  Size: SH
  16. Tighten the fuel filler cap.
  17. 11.1. Turn ignition switch to On for 2 seconds.
    11.2. Turn the ignition switch to Off for 5 seconds.
    11.3. Turn the ignition switch On.
    11.4. Check for fuel leaks.
