Put the column in the neutral position.
2.1. | Pull the tab (1) out on the block side of the automatic transmission shift lock control. |
2.2. | Shift the column into the neutral position. |
2.3. | Press on the adjuster block (2) to compress the internal adjuster spring to disengage the adjuster teeth. Slide the adjuster block (2) as far away from the solenoid as possible. |
2.4. | Shift the column into the park position. |
2.5. | Lock in place by pushing the tab (1) back in. |
3.1. | The automatic transmission shift lock control must lock the gear shift lever when it is put into the park position. |
3.2. | When the column is installed in the vehicle you will not be able to shift the gear shift lever out of the park position without pressing on the brake pedal. The solenoid will be energized. |
3.3. | Readjust if needed. |
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
Tighten
Tighten the 2 pan head tapping screws to 7 N·m (62 lb in).
