Test Description

The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.

  1. Lack of communication may be due to a partial malfunction of the class 2 serial data circuit. The specified procedure will determine the particular condition. Attempt to communicate with the following modules:

  2. • Audio amplifier
    • Cellular telephone module w/UV8
    • Dash integration module (DIM)
    • Driver door module (DDM)
    • Driver door switch assembly (DDSA)
    • Left middle door module (LMDM) w/V4U
    • Left rear door module (LRDM)
    • Memory seat module (MSM)
    • Navigation display head w/UY4
    • Navigation data processor w/UY4
    • Front passenger door module (FPDM)
    • Radio
    • Rear integration module (RIM)
    • Right middle door module (RMDM) w/V4U
    • Right rear door module (RRDM)
    • Steering column module
  3. The Symptom Table will determine the correct diagnostic procedure to use.

  4. The presence of DTCs which begin with the letter U indicate some other module is not communicating. The specified procedure will compile all the available information before tests are performed.

  5. If DTC B1422 is set, the RAP feature may be disabled.

Install a scan tool.

Does the scan tool power up?

Go to Step 2

Go to Scan Tool Does Not Power Up in Data Link Communication.

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Attempt to establish communication with each module on the Class 2 serial data circuit listed in the supporting text. If using a Tech 2, obtain this information using the Class 2 Message Monitor feature.

Does the scan tool communicate with these modules?

Go to Step 3

Go to Scan Tool Does Not Communicate with Class 2 Device in Data Link Communication.

Select the Display DTCs function for each module. If using a Tech 2, use the Class 2 DTC Check feature in order to determine which modules have DTCs set.

Does the scan tool display any DTCs?

Go to Step 4

Go to Symptoms - Retained Accessory Power

Select the modules' display DTC function on the scan tool.

Does the scan tool display DTCs that begin with the letter "U"?

Go to Scan Tool Does Not Communicate with Class 2 Device in Data Link Communication.

Go to Step 5

Does the scan tool display any of the following DTCs?

    • B1000
    • B1004
    • B1007
    • B1009

Go to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List in Body Control System

Go to Step 6

Does the scan tool display any of the following DTCs?

    • B1327
    • B1328

Go to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List in Engine Electrical

Go to Step 7

Does the scan tool display DTC B1422?
