Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant from the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .

  2. Object Number: 755984  Size: SH
  3. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
  4. Remove the evaporator nut (2).
  5. Disconnect the evaporator hose assembly from the evaporator.
  6. Using the J 37097-A , remove the clamps from the heater hoses at the heater core.
  7. Remove the heater hoses from the heater core.

  9. Remove the evaporator drain.
  10. Remove the dash integration module. Refer to Dash Integration Module Replacement in Body Control System.
  11. Remove the instrument panel assembly. Refer to Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  12. Remove the defroster duct screws (2).

  14. Remove the defroster duct (1).
  15. Disconnect the electrical connections to the HVAC module.

  16. Object Number: 493716  Size: SH
  17. Remove the HVAC module retaining nuts.

  18. Object Number: 130657  Size: SH
  19. Remove the HVAC module assembly.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the HVAC module assembly.

  2. Object Number: 493716  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the HVAC module retaining nuts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  5. Install the dash integration module. Refer to Dash Integration Module Replacement in Body Control System.
  6. Reconnect the electrical connectors.

  8. Install the defroster duct (1).
  9. Install the defroster duct screws (2).
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 1.4 N·m (12 lb in).

  11. Install the evaporator drain.
  12. Install the instrument panel assembly. Refer to Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  13. Install the heater hoses to the heater core.
  14. Install the clamps to the heater hoses.
  15. Connect the evaporator hose assembly to the evaporator core.
  16. Install the evaporator nut to the evaporator.
  17. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).

  18. Refill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
  19. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  20. Leak test the fittings of the reinstalled component using J 42220 .
