Rear Brake Rotor Replacement J55
Tools Required
Caution: Refer to Brake Dust Caution in the Preface section.
Removal Procedure
- Release the park brake.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tires and Wheels.
Notice: Support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic wire, or equivalent,
whenever it is separated from its mount and the hydraulic flexible brake hose is still connected. Failure to support the caliper in this manner will cause the flexible brake hose to bear the weight of the caliper, which may cause damage to the brake hose and
in turn may cause a brake fluid leak.
- Remove the brake caliper and bracket from the vehicle, support
the caliper assembly away from the rotor. Refer to
Rear Disc Brake Pads Replacement
.
- Remove
the brake rotor. Slowly turn the brake rotor while pulling the brake rotor away
from the hub and bearing assembly.
Installation Procedure
Important: Whenever the brake rotor has been separated from the wheel bearing flange,
clean any rust or contaminants from the wheel bearing flange and the brake
rotor mating surfaces. Failure to do this may result in increased lateral
runout of the brake rotor, and brake pulsation.
- Use J 42450-A
to clean all rust and contaminants
from both sides of the brake rotor and the hub flange.
- Use J 41013
to clean
the rust from the brake rotor flange.
- Install the brake rotor. Slowly turn the brake rotor while pushing the
brake rotor towards the hub and bearing assembly.
- Install the brake caliper and the brake caliper bracket as an assembly.
Refer to
Rear Disc Brake Pads Replacement
.
- Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tires and Wheels.
- Lower the vehicle.
