The purpose of this message is to update you on the status of an upcoming safety recall involving certain 2000-2002 Cadillac DeVilles.
Preliminary information about this recall, along with anticipated questions and answers, was sent to all involved dealers via GM Administrative Message WIA20020059 on September 11, 2002. That message indicated that this recall would be released on December 2002. Please be advised that due to parts availability this recall will not be announced by General Motors until late January 2003.
The condition is that the driver and/or front passenger lap and/or shoulder belt retractors may not remain locked up as designed during a crash in which the belt pretensioners deploy. In such a crash, this could result in an increase in injury to that occupant. There are approximately 280,000 vehicles involved.
A GM Administrative Message officially announcing the recall will be transmitted to all involved dealers on the same day that the recall bulletin is mailed which is normally 7 days prior to the mailing of customer notification letters.
