Subject:Traction Control Light On/Traction Control Inoperative, Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) C1295 Stored in History (Perform Diagnostic Checks)

Models:2000-2005 Cadillac DeVille

This bulletin is being revised to provide clarification of the additional diagnostic checks to be performed. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 05-05-25-010A (Section 05 - Brakes).

Condition

Some customers may comment that the traction control light is on intermittently or continuously or that the traction control is inoperative.

Technicians may find a DTC C1295 has been stored in history.

Cause

This condition may be due to an open or short to ground condition in the brake lamp wiring related to DTC C1295 (brake lamp switch circuit open).

Correction

PERFORM THE ADDITIONAL DIAGNOSTIC CHECKS BELOW BEFORE REPLACING THE STOP LAMP SWITCH OR THE TCC CRUISE SWITCH.

Important:  The stop lamp switch and the TCC cruise control switch are not directly related to DTC C1295. The stop lamp switch engages the cruise and lamp functions and the TCC switch applies to engage the cruise control function only.

A traction control MIL (malfunction indicator light) with DTC C1295 has prompted replacement of the stop lamp switch or the TCC (torque converter control) cruise switch. A recent analysis of parts returned from the field to the Warranty Parts Center indicates all switches were fully functional and the customer concern was not duplicated.

Before replacing the stop lamp switch or the TCC cruise switch , these additional system checks should be performed:

    • CHMSL Assembly Resistance -- normally around 390ohms +/- 10.
    • Ground Connectivity -- G300 (rear right side of seat battery), G402 (rear left side of tail light connector), G105/G106 (front right side near alternator)
    • Check Circuit 850 for a break or aftermarket items spliced into the circuit.
