Info - Preventing Damage to the GPS Antenna Lead During OnStar Vehicle Communication Interface Module (VCIM) Replacement

Subject:Preventing Damage to the GPS Antenna Lead During OnStar® Vehicle Communication Interface Module (VCIM) Replacement

Models:2002 Cadillac DeVille, Seville

When replacing the VCIM, it is important to follow the procedure found in the Service Manual. The GPS antenna lead can be broken if the procedure is not followed. The GPS antenna connector is clipped to the cross car brace in front of the electrical component mounting bracket. The short length of the lead from the connector to the VCIM does not allow the electrical component mounting bracket to be pulled back very far before the GPS lead breaks. The following Notice is included in the Communication Interface Module Replacement procedure in the Service Manual and must be followed.

Notice: DO NOT completely remove the electrical component mounting bracket until the GPS antenna cable is removed from the cross car brace. Failure to do so may result in damage to the GPS connector.

The VCIM is attached to the electrical component mounting bracket by a retaining tab. It slides out of the electrical component mounting bracket after the tab is released. The GPS antenna lead can be disconnected after the VCIM is removed from the electrical component mounting bracket.
