Condition

Some customers may comment on the following conditions:

    • Illumination of the "Check Coolant Level" message on the DIC during a cold start.
    • Reduced HVAC performance (the heater is not providing enough heat).

Cause

This condition may be due to an underfill condition of the engine coolant during the vehicle assembly process.

Correction

Caution: Do not remove the coolant recovery reservoir (surge tank) cap while the cooling system is hot. Serious personal injury may result. Only remove the cap from a cool engine.

  1. If the vehicle cooling system is NOT leaking and the coolant level is NOT at the proper level:
  2. • Fill the surge tank with a 50/50 mixture of DEX-COOL® coolant and clean drinkable or distilled water until the coolant level is 6.4 cm (2.5 in) below the base of the surge tank fill neck.
    • Refer to Engine Coolant in the Service and Appearance Care section of the Owner's Manual.
  3. If the vehicle cooling system coolant level is leaking, perform the standard diagnostic procedures in the Service Manual.
