    • J 36660-A Torque/Angle Meter
    • J 41816 Crankshaft Balancer Remover
    • J 41998-B Crankshaft Balancer Installer
    • J 44214 Flywheel Holder

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  3. Remove the right front wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  4. Remove the front fascia extension from the wheelhouse. Refer to Front Bumper Fascia Extension Replacement in Bumpers.

  5. Object Number: 333127  Size: SH
  6. Remove the brace between the engine oil pan and the transaxle case.
  7. Remove the torque converter cover. Refer to Torque Converter Cover Replacement in Automatic Transaxle-4T80-E.

  8. Object Number: 650536  Size: SH
  9. Install the J 44214  (1).
  10. Remove the crankshaft balancer bolt.

  11. Object Number: 105771  Size: SH
  12. Support the engine assembly with a suitable jack.
  13. Remove the nut securing the right engine mount to the right engine mount bracket.
  14. Lower the engine assembly to obtain clearance for the J 41816 below the body rail.

  15. Object Number: 52031  Size: SH
  16. Place the remover pilot into the end of the crankshaft.
  17. Remove the crankshaft balancer using the J 41816 .
  18. Clean and inspect the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Cleaning and Inspection in Engine Mechanical-4.6L Unit Repair.

Installation Procedure

  1. Position the crankshaft balancer on the nose of the crankshaft.

  2. Object Number: 53637  Size: SH
  3. Press the crankshaft balancer in place using the J 41998-A .

  4. Object Number: 350291  Size: SH
  5. Clean the crankshaft balancer bolt threads.
  6. Apply engine oil to the crankshaft balancer bolt threads.
  7. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  8. Install the crankshaft balancer bolt.
  9. 5.1. First Pass

    Tighten
    Tighten the crankshaft balancer bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

    5.2. Final Pass

    Tighten
    Tighten the crankshaft balancer bolt an additional 120 degrees using the J 36660-A .

  10. Raise the engine assembly into position.
  11. Install the nut securing the right engine mount to the right engine mount bracket.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the right engine mount nut to 80 N·m (59 lb ft).

  13. Remove the engine support jack.
  14. Remove the J 44214 .
  15. Install the torque converter cover. Refer to Torque Converter Cover Replacement in Automatic Transaxle-4T80-E.

  16. Object Number: 333127  Size: SH
  17. Install the oil pan to transaxle brace.
  18. Tighten
    Tighten the oil pan to transaxle brace bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  19. Install the front fascia extension to the wheelhouse. Refer to Front Bumper Fascia Extension Replacement in Bumpers.
  20. Install the right front wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  21. Lower the vehicle.
  22. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
