J 37043 Parking Brake Cable Release Tool

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  2. Object Number: 492729  Size: SH
  3. Ensure the park brake pedal is in the full returned position.
  4. Pull down on the front cable in relieve tension on the cable.
  5. Remove the cable (3) from the cable connector (1).
  6. Using J 37043 depress the park brake cable retainer.
  7. Remove the park brake cable from the park brake cable support.

  9. Lower the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  10. Remove left sound insulator panel to access the lever assembly. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  11. Remove the left carpet retainer. Refer to Front Carpet Retainer Replacement in Interior Trim.
  12. Pull back the carpet to expose the park brake cable and lever assembly.
  13. Remove the grommet from the floor pan.

  15. Remove the park brake assembly attaching nuts (1, 2).
  16. Carefully rotate the park brake lever cam and secure.

  18. Carefully remove the front park brake cable from the park brake pedal assembly.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the front park brake cable into the park brake pedal assembly.
  2. Rotate the park brake cam to its original position.

  3. Object Number: 107329  Size: SH
  4. Install the park brake assembly to the mounting studs.
  5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the lever attaching nuts (1, 2).
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the park brake attaching nut to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).

  8. Install the cable and grommet into the floor pan.

  10. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  11. Reconnect the front cable (3) to the cable connector (1).
  12. Lower the vehicle.
  13. Reposition the carpet.
  14. Install the left sound insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  15. Install the left carpet retainer. Refer to Front Carpet Retainer Replacement in Interior Trim.
