Removal Procedure

Notice: Turn the ignition OFF when installing or removing the PCM connectors and disconnecting or reconnecting the power to the PCM (battery cable, PCM pigtail, PCM fuse, jumper cables, etc.) in order to prevent internal PCM damage.

    Important: It is necessary to record the remaining engine oil life. If the replacement module is not programed with the remaining engine oil life, the engine oil life will default to 100%. If the replacement module is not programmed with the remaining engine oil life, the engine oil will need to be changed at 5000 km (3,000 mi) from the last engine oil change.

    Important: It is necessary to record the remaining automatic transmission fluid life. If the replacement module is not programed with the remaining automatic transmission fluid life, the automatic transmission fluid life will default to 100%. If the replacement module is not programmed with the remaining automatic transmission fluid life, the automatic transmission fluid will need to be changed at 83000 km (50,000 mi) from the last automatic transmission fluid change.

  1. Using a scan tool, retrieve the percentage of remaining engine oil and the remaining automatic transmission fluid life. Record the remaining engine oil and the remaining automatic transmission fluid life.
  2. Turn OFF the ignition.
  3. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  4. Disconnect the mass air flow/intake air temperature (MAF/IAT) sensor electrical connector.

  6. Loosen the intake air duct clamp at the throttle body.
  7. Loosen the air filter element/powertrain control module (PCM) housing cover screws.
  8. Remove the air filter element/PCM housing cover, MAF/IAT sensor, and intake air duct.
  9. Disconnect both PCM connectors.
  10. Remove the PCM.

Installation Procedure

Important: Be sure to inspect the following areas before installing the PCM:

   • No debris in the air filter element/PCM housing assembly, or the MAF/IAT sensor inlet screen that may distort the air flow.
   • No signs of damage to the air filter element/PCM housing assembly, or the intake air duct. If a problem is found, replace as necessary.

Important: If the PCM is being programmed using the Off-Board method, perform the programming before continuing with the steps listed below. Refer to the Off-Board procedure in Service Programming System (SPS) in Programming.

  1. Install the PCM.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  3. Install the PCM connectors.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the PCM connectors screws to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

  5. Install the intake air duct, MAF/IAT sensor, and the air filter element/PCM housing cover to the throttle body.
  6. Important: Be sure to properly install the intake air duct to the throttle body. An improperly installed, distorted, or damaged air filter or intake air duct may cause a DTC to set.

  7. Align and engage the tabs on the air filter element/PCM housing cover with the slots in the air filter element/PCM housing.
  8. Tighten the air element/PCM housing cover screws
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the air element/PCM housing cover screws to 4 N·m (35 lb in).

  10. Tighten the intake air duct clamp at the throttle body.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the clamp to 3 N·m (27 lb in).

  12. Reconnect the MAF/IAT sensor connector.
  13. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  14. Program the PCM. Refer to Service Programming System (SPS) in Programming.
