Did you perform the Body Rear End Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Open the rear compartment lid.
  4. With a scan tool, observe the Trunk Ajar Switch parameter in the rear integration module (RIM) data list.

Does the scan tool indicate that the Trunk Ajar Switch parameter is Off?

Go to Step 3

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the rear compartment lid release actuator.
  3. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper between the rear compartment lid ajar signal circuit of the rear compartment lid release actuator and the ground circuit of the rear compartment lid release actuator.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  5. With a scan tool, observe the Trunk Ajar Switch parameter.

Does the scan tool indicate that the Trunk Ajar Switch parameter is Off?

Test the ground circuit of the rear compartment lid release actuator for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Go to Step 10

Test the rear compartment lid ajar signal circuit of the rear compartment lid release actuator for an open, short, or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the rear integration module (RIM). Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the rear compartment lid release actuator. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the RIM. Refer to Rear Integration Body Control Module Replacement in Body Control System.

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
