Subject: | Intermittent No Electrical Power, No Crank/Start (Align Engine Wiring Junction
Block (Underhood Bussed Electrical Center (UBEC)) Connectors) |
Condition
Some customers may comment on an intermittent no electrical power condition
that leads to a no crank/start when the ignition is turned to START.
Cause
This condition may be due to the engine wiring junction block (Underhood Bussed
Electrical Center (UBEC)) connectors not being fully seated to the engine wiring junction
block causing a poor connection.
Correction
Ensure the three wiring harness connectors are properly installed to the engine
wiring junction block/UBEC.
Repair Procedure
- Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery. Refer to Battery
Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure in the Engine Electrical sub-section of
the Service Manual or SI document #868630.
- Remove the engine wiring junction (fuse) block/UBEC
cover.
- Remove the positive battery cable fastener and cable from the junction
fuse block.
- Loosen the 3 fasteners that retain the junction fuse block to the junction
fuse block wiring harness connectors.
- Release the 4 locking tabs that retain the junction fuse block to the
base assembly.
- Separate the junction fuse block from the wiring harness connectors.
- Carefully align the junction fuse block to the wiring harness connectors.
Important: Ensure the connectors are fully seated.
- Connect the junction fuse block to the wiring harness connectors.
- Engage the 4 locking tabs that retain the junction fuse block to the base
assembly.
Tighten
Tighten the 3 fasteners that secure the junction
fuse block to the wire harness connectors to 7 N·m(62 lb in).
- Install the positive battery cable and fastener to the junction fuse block.
Tighten
Tighten the fastener to 15 N·m(11 lb ft).
- Install the engine wiring junction (fuse) block/UBEC cover.
- Connect the negative battery cable to the battery. Refer to Battery Negative
Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure in the Engine Electrical sub-section of the Service
Manual or SI document #868630.
- Verify that the condition has been corrected.
