Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Turn the radio ON.
  3. Adjust the radio balance and fade to the left front speaker.

Does the speaker operate properly?

--

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Install a scan tool.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Open the driver door.
  5. With the scan tool, observe the Driver Door Ajar Sw. parameter in the Door Modules Inputs data list.

Does the Driver Door Ajar Sw. parameter display On?

  1. Turn the headlamps ON.
  2. With the scan tool, observe the Head Lamp Switch parameter in the dash integration module (DIM) Inputs data list.

Does the Head Lamp Switch parameter display On?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. With the scan tool, observe the Key In Ignition parameter in the instrument panel module (IPM) Non HVAC Data data list.

Does the Key In Ignition parameter display Yes?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the ignition switch.
  3. Connect a 3-ampere fused jumper between the key in ignition signal circuit and a good ground.
  4. With the scan tool, observe the Key In Ignition parameter.

Does the Key In Ignition parameter display Yes?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the amplifier.
  3. Insert the key into the ignition.
  4. Open the driver door.
  5. With a DMM, measure the AC voltage between the chime bit module 1 signal circuit and the chime bit module 2 signal circuit.

Does the DMM display the specified AC voltage?

0.6-0.7 V

Test the key in ignition signal circuit for an open or for a high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the ground circuit of the key in ignition switch for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the chime module bit 1 signal circuit for a for an open, for a short to ground, or for a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
