Did you review the Night Vision Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

Go to Step 2

  1. Position the vehicle approximately 8 meters (25 feet) from the nearest object.
  2. Cover the lower windshield with a mat.
  3. Cover the ambient light sensor.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  5. Turn the head-up display (HUD) ON.
  6. Turn the twilight sentinel OFF.
  7. Turn the headlamps OFF.
  8. Turn the front fog lamps OFF.

Does the night vision video image turn OFF?

Go to Step 3

Go to Step 4

  1. Turn the headlamps ON.
  2. Turn the HUD OFF.

Does the night vision video image turn OFF?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Install a scan tool.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. With a scan tool, observe the HUD Dimming parameter in the instrument panel module (IPM) Non-HVAC data list.

Does the HUD Dimming parameter display ON?

Go to Step 11

Test the HUD active signal circuit of the HUD for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Go to Step 16

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the HUD.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Turn the HUD switch OFF.
  5. Connect a test lamp between the night vision on/off switch signal circuit and a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 8

Test the night vision on/off switch signal circuit for an open or for a high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the night vision on/off switch signal circuit for a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the HUD switch ground circuit for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the HUD. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
