Schematic Reference: Night Vision Schematics

Did you review the Night Vision Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

Go to Step 2

Go to Symptoms - Instrument Panel, Gages and Console

  1. Position the vehicle approximately 8 meters (25 feet) from the nearest object.
  2. Cover the lower windshield with a mat.
  3. Cover the ambient light sensor.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  5. Turn the headlamps ON.
  6. Turn the head-up display (HUD) ON.
  7. Move the dimmer control switch on the HUD switch up and down.

Does the night vision image brighten when the switch is moved up and dim when the switch is moved down?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

  1. Turn OFF the Ignition.
  2. Disconnect the HUD.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Connect a DMM between the night vision image dimming signal circuit and a good ground.
  5. Observe the voltage of the night vision image dimming signal circuit.
  6. Move the dimmer control switch up and then down .

Does the voltage on the DMM change from 2.5-12 volts?

Test the night vision image dimming signal circuit for an open, a short to voltage, or for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the HUD. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the HUD switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the HUD switch. Refer to Head Up Display Switch Replacement .

Replace the HUD. Refer to Control Module References in Computer/Integrating Systems for replacement, setup, and programming.

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
