  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Open the rear compartment lid.

Does the rear compartment lamp operate properly?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

Operate the rear compartment lid release actuator.

Does the rear compartment lid release actuator operate properly?

Go to Step 4

Go to Trunk Release Inoperative in Body Rear End

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the rear compartment lamp.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Connect a test lamp between the courtesy lamp supply voltage circuit of the rear compartment lamp and a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 5

Connect a test lamp between the courtesy lamp supply voltage circuit of the rear compartment lamp and the trunk lamp control circuit.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 7

Test for an open or high resistance in the trunk lamp control circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Go to Step 12

Inspect for poor connections at the rear compartment lamp. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the rear compartment lid release actuator. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair an open or high resistance in the courtesy lamp supply voltage circuit of the rear compartment lamp. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the rear compartment lamp. Refer to Rear Compartment Courtesy Lamp Replacement .
