Press and release the brake pedal.

Do the stop lamps operate properly?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Is the center high mounted stop lamp (CHMSL) on?

Go to Step 4

Disconnect the stop lamp switch.

Did the stop lamps turn off?

Go to Step 6

Inspect for poor connections at the turn/hazard flasher module. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 10

Inspect for poor connections at the stop lamp switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the short to voltage in the stop lamp switch signal circuit. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the stop lamp switch. Refer to Stop Lamp Switch Replacement .

Replace the turn/hazard flasher module. Refer to Control Module References in Computer/Integrating Systems for replacement, setup, and programming.
