Test Description

The number below refers to the step number on the diagnostic table.

  1. This step tests the integrity of the heated seat temperature signal from the door module. This signal is a momentary 35 millisecond one-shot pulse signal that is monitored through a momentary change in voltage when the switch is pressed. In order to accurately recognize the change in voltage, the voltmeter should be stable before performing this test.

Verify that the Heated Seat Inoperative complaint is present.

Does the heated seat system operate as described in the description and operation?

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. With a scan tool, observe the Heated Seat Temperature parameter in the Door Module data list.
  4. Activate the heated seat HEAT/OFF switch.

Does the Heated Seat Temperature parameter momentarily change state?

Measure the voltage from the battery voltage circuit of the heated seat switch to a good ground.

Does the voltage measure within the specified range?

9-15 V

  1. Probe the heated seat heat/off temperature switch signal circuit of the heated seat switch with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.
  2. Activate the heated seat HEAT/OFF switch.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Measure the voltage from the battery positive voltage circuit of the heated seat module to a good ground.

Does the voltage measure within the specified range?

9-15 V

Measure the voltage from the battery positive voltage circuit of the heated seat module to the ground circuit of the heated seat module.

Does the voltage measure within the specified range?

Measure the voltage from the ignition 3 voltage circuit of the heated seat module to a good ground.

Does the voltage measure within the specified range?

  1. Measure the voltage from the heated seat temperature signal circuit of the heated seat module to a good ground.
  2. Press the heated seat HEAT/OFF switch.

Does the measured voltage momentarily change state?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the door module connector C3.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Measure the voltage from the heated seat temperature signal circuit of the door module connector to a good ground.

Does the voltage measure within the specified range?

4.50-5.50 V

  1. Disconnect the heated seat module connector C1.
  2. Connect a test lamp from battery positive voltage to the heated seat back only mode signal circuit of the module connector.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Disconnect the heated seat module connector C2.
  2. Measure the resistance between the heated seat cushion element supply voltage circuit and the heated seat cushion element control circuit of the module connector.

Does the resistance measure less than the specified value?

10 ohms

Measure the resistance between the heated seat back element supply voltage circuit and the heated seat back element control circuit of the module connector.

Does the resistance measure less than the specified value?

10 ohms

Important: If the resistance is measured with the seat still warm, the resistance may vary within the specified range depending on the temperature of the seat.

Measure the resistance between the temperature sensor signal circuit and the sensor low reference circuit of the seat cushion temperature sensor.

Does the resistance measure within the specified range?

280 ohms-300 K ohms

Important: If the resistance is measured with the seat still warm, the resistance may vary within the specified range depending on the temperature of the seat.

Measure the resistance between the temperature sensor signal circuit and the sensor low reference circuit of the seat back temperature sensor.

  2. Connect the heated seat module connectors.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
