J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Disconnect the snap clamp (2) retaining the evaporator hose  (1) to the accumulator cover.

  3. Object Number: 474763  Size: SH
  4. Remove the evaporator hose (2) from the hold down (1) on the frame rail.
  5. Disconnect the electrical connector from the A/C low temperature sensor .
  6. Remove the evaporator hose nut (1) from the evaporator.

  7. Object Number: 474766  Size: SH
  8. Remove the evaporator hose  (2) from the evaporator.
  9. Remove the upper filler panel. Refer to Filler Panel Replacement - Upper in Body Front End.
  10. Remove the evaporator hose nut from the accumulator.
  11. Remove the evaporator hose from the accumulator.

  13. Remove the evaporator hose nut (1) from the condenser.
  14. Remove the evaporator hose (3) from the condenser.
  15. Remove the evaporator hose (3) from the vehicle.
  16. Remove and discard the sealing washers from the evaporator hose (3). Refer to Sealing Washer Replacement .

Installation Procedure

  1. Install new sealing washers to the evaporator hose. Refer to Sealing Washer Replacement .
  2. Install the evaporator hose (3) to the condenser.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the evaporator hose nut (1) to the condenser.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  6. Install the evaporator hose (2) to the evaporator.
  7. Install the evaporator hose nut (1) to the evaporator.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).

  9. Install the evaporator hose to the accumulator.
  10. Install the evaporator hose nut to the accumulator.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  12. Position the evaporator hose (1) on the accumulator cover and install the snap clamp (2).

  14. Install the evaporator hose (2) to the frame rail hold down (1).
  15. Connect the A/C low temperature sensor electrical connector.
  16. Recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  17. Leak test the fittings using the J 39400-A .
  18. Install the upper filler panel. Refer to Filler Panel Replacement - Upper in Body Front End.
