Customer Satisfaction - Child Restraint Anchorage System-Owner Manual Update

Subject:04079 - Child Restraint Anchorage System - Owner Manual Update

Models:2005 Cadillac DeVille

Condition

Certain 2005 model year Cadillac DeVille vehicles have incorrect information in the owner manual. Cadillac DeVille vehicles have child restraint lower anchorages for the two outboard rear seating positions. Some owner manuals incorrectly state that all three rear seating positions are equipped with child restraint lower anchorages. Although the middle seat does not have the lower anchorages, it does have the top tether for use with the appropriate style child restraint.

Correction

To correct this condition, a supplement needs to be placed in the owner manual. To reduce customer inconvenience, the supplement will be sent directly to owners of record. Dealers are responsible for installing the supplement in the owner manual for any involved vehicles in inventory.

Customer Notification

General Motors will notify customers of this program on their vehicle (see copy of customer letter included with this bulletin).

Dealer Program Responsibility

All unsold new vehicles in dealers' possession and subject to this program MUST be held and inspected/repaired per the service procedure of this program bulletin BEFORE customers take possession of these vehicles.

Dealers are to service all vehicles subject to this program at no charge to customers, regardless of mileage, age of vehicle, or ownership, from this time forward.

Customers who have recently purchased vehicles sold from your vehicle inventory, and for which there is no customer information indicated on the dealer listing, are to be contacted by the dealer. Arrangements are to be made to make the required correction according to the instructions contained in this bulletin. This could be done by mailing to such customers a copy of the customer letter accompanying this bulletin. Program follow-up cards should not be used for this purpose, since the customer may not as yet have received the notification letter.

In summary, whenever a vehicle subject to this program enters your vehicle inventory, or is in your dealership for service in the future, you must take the steps necessary to be sure the program correction has been made before selling or releasing the vehicle.

October 2004

Dear General Motors Customer:

This notice is sent to inform you that Cadillac is conducting a customer satisfaction program that affects your 2005 model year Cadillac DeVille.

We have learned that your vehicle may have been built with incorrect information in the owner manual. The rear seat in your vehicle has child restraint lower anchorages for the two outboard rear seating positions. The lower anchorage locations for the two outboard seating positions can be easily identified by this symbol on the lower portion of the seatback.

Some owner manuals incorrectly state that all three rear seating positions are equipped with child restraint lower anchorages. Although the middle seat does not have the lower anchorages, it does have the top tether for use with the appropriate style child restraint.

Enclosed is a corrected owner manual page that you should insert in your owner manual.

If you have any questions or need any assistance, just contact your dealer or the appropriate Customer Assistance Center at the number listed below. The Customer Assistance Center hours of operation are from 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM EST, Monday through Friday
