Subject:Service Guide -- Protection Series DeVille

Models:2004-2005 Cadillac DeVille
with RPO WC2 -- Vehicle Personal Security Sedan OR,
RPO WC8 -- Vehicle Personal Security 8" Stretch

The purpose of this bulletin is to introduce the Protection Series DeVille. The information in this bulletin will familiarize you with the vehicle's features and describe the action that your Service Department will need to take to ensure that you are able to fully service this vehicle.

SERVICE REQUIREMENTS:

A dealer must be an authorized dealer to sell and service the Protection Series DeVille. A list of authorized dealers can be found on www.cadillac.com by accessing Cadillac Professional Vehicles and then selecting Protection Series.

Special Tools: there are no special tools required to service the Protection Series DeVille, although, a dealer MUST have a service hoist capable of supporting a 7,500 lb.(3400 kg) vehicle.

Dealers are responsible for servicing all mechanical functions. In addition, authorized Protection Series Dealers can service:

    • Tire replacement
    • Wheel rotation
    • TPM Module (Tire Pressure Monitor replacement)
    • Windshield and installation materials
    • Rear glass and installation materials
    • Door glass (front and rear)
    • Minor dents not impacting armor
    • Collision repair with no armor repair
    • Door hinges and hardware

Any vehicle requiring repair to the armor must be repaired by Scaletta-Moloney. Vehicles should either be shipped to Scaletta-Moloney or, a Scaletta-Moloney technician will travel to the dealership. Shipping charges will be covered by warranty as long as the repair is warrantable. Otherwise, the customer will be responsible for shipping charges. Dealers can contact the Cadillac Professional Vehicle Program Headquarters at 800-528-5515 with any questions.

OPERATING CHARACTERISTICS

The DeVille Protection Series is heavier than a regular DeVille due to the armor protection system. Because of this added weight, the vehicle has certain operating characteristics that are different from a regular DeVille. These include acceleration, braking, cornering, fuel economy, and cruising range on a tank of fuel.

Windows Operation:

Any operational window will only lower to about one-half the visible window height. The driver's side front window can be operated on all models. An optional operational passenger's side front window is available. In addition, the WC8 (stretch version) has an optional operational passenger's side rear window. The express-up, express-down and anti-pinch features are not available on this vehicle.

Heated Windshield Defrost Assist:

The glass on the Protection Series DeVille is thicker than standard glass and takes longer to defrost. The heated windshield defrost assist will speed up the windshield defrost time. The windshield defrost assist will operate along with the rear window defogger and can be used to remove fog or frost from the windshield. This feature will only work while the ignition is in ON. Press the rear defogger button to turn the windshield defrost assist and rear window defogger on or off. The windshield and rear defogger will operate together and cannot be controlled separately. Be sure to clear as much snow from the windshield and rear window as possible before starting the defrost cycle. The system will turn off approximately 10 minutes after the button is pressed. If turned on again, the defrost will only run for approximately five more minutes before turning off. The defrost can also be turned off by pressing the button again or by turning off the engine.

Tires:

The tire and wheel assembly on the Protection Series DeVille vehicle includes the enhanced mobility system. The system is designed to provide vehicle mobility even if all four tires have been deflated. The enhanced mobility tire and wheel assembly is designed to provide vehicle mobility for 30 miles (48 km) at 30 mph (48 km/h), with a flat tire condition. The distance that can be driven with a flat tire decreases as vehicle speed increases. Driving with a flat tire beyond the 30 mile limitation may cause damage to the insert, tire and wheel. The vehicle has a full-size spare tire stored in the trunk. This spare DOES NOT have the enhanced mobility features. The vehicle can operate for long periods with the spare tire and wheel installed, however, the SERVICE TIRE MONITOR will be shown on the Driver Information Center (DIC) display when the spare tire is installed. This message should go off once the enhanced mobility tire and wheel containing the TPM sensor are reinstalled.

Caution: :  Enhanced mobility tires and wheels are constructed differently than standard tire and wheel assemblies and could explode during improper service. Only an authorized servicing dealer can repair, replace, disassemble or reassemble enhanced mobility tires and wheels.

Standard light truck tires are fitted with a solid rubber insert and mounted onto a two-piece, forged aluminum wheel. The insert is placed inside the tire cavity and fitted to the center of the wheel. The insert keeps the tire bead pressed firmly against the wheel rim and prevents the tire from being pinched flat against the wheel rim when the tire has lost air pressure. A Tire Pressure Monitor (TPM) is used to monitor air pressure inside each enhanced mobility tire. When the TPM system detects a low tire pressure condition, a message is displayed on the Driver Information Center (DIC). The Tire Pressure Monitor (TPM) system uses radio and sensor technology to check tire pressure levels. Sensors mounted on each tire and wheel assembly, excluding the spare tire and wheel, transmit tire pressure readings to a receiver located in the vehicle. Tire pressure status and tire pressure warnings are shown on the Driver Information Center (DIC) display. The SERVICE TIRE MONITOR message is also displayed when the TPM system is malfunctioning. One or more missing or inoperable TPM sensors will cause the service TPM message to be displayed.

Battery:

The maintenance-free battery is located in the trunk, behind the rear seat.

Radio/CD Changer:

A "CDX ERROR" message will appear when the CD hard key is pressed while the map DVD is installed in the navigation system. The CD changer is not available with the navigation option in the DeVille Protection Series.

FUEL TANK:

Due to the special fuel tank, the fuel capacity in your DeVille Protection Series will be slightly less than the regular DeVille based on outside temperature and elevation.

WARRANTY COVERAGE

The DeVille equipped with WC2 -- Vehicle Personal Security or WC8 -- Vehicle Personal Security 8" stretch, carries a 4 year or 50,000 mile (80,000 kilometre) warranty -- whichever comes first, except for glass.

Glass warranty is 2 years or 25,000 miles (40,000 kilometre)- whichever comes first. When submitting a glass claim, a photograph of the damaged glass is required for warranty reimbursement. To order replacement glass, follow the traditional parts ordering steps. Orders are shipped within 24 hours using overnight shipping. Orders received before 4 p.m. (EST) will result in next day delivery.

MAINTENANCE OF GLASS SURFACES:

The glass may be cleaned using most standard cleaning techniques and products. Liquid glass cleaners generally work best. Using abrasive cleaners when cleaning glass surfaces on your vehicle may scratch the glass and/or cause damage to the rear window defogger and the integrated radio antenna. When cleaning the glass on your vehicle, use only a soft cloth and glass cleaner. Do not wipe the glass with dry, dirty rags or with your hand. See "Appearance Care" in the Index of the DeVille owner manual for more information.

Notice:

   • There is no repair for a glass panel, only replacement.
   • Using a razor blade or other sharp object on the glass may cause damage. Do not let a razor blade, sharp object or any abrasive material come into contact with the glass.
   • Decals or window tint film applied to the inside surface of the glass may cause damage. Do not stick any decals, labels or stickers to the inside glass.
   •  Extended exposure to sunlight and high heat may damage the glass layers over time. If the vehicle must be parked for an extended period, park in a garage, parking structure or other enclosure to help avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight and high heat.

PDI Checklist

There are no special requirements to perform during the PDI of a Protection Series DeVille.
