Subject:Service Procedure Available For Rear Fascias That May Become Distorted/Warped When In High Ambient Temperatures

Models:2000-2005 Cadillac DeVille

This bulletin is being revised to include additional model years. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 02-08-62-002A (Section 08 - Body and Accessories).

A distorted or warped rear fascia may appear after the vehicle has been exposed to high ambient temperatures. This condition is more prevalent on darker colors.

The repair of this condition will require replacing the rear fascia and using the service procedure provided in this bulletin.

The purpose of the service procedure is to provide room for the fascia to expand and contract by enlarging the fascia attachment points. This procedure was developed in order to minimize the possibility of the new rear fascia becoming distorted or warped.

Service Procedure

  1. Remove the rear fascia from the vehicle. Refer to Fascia Replacement-Rear Bumper in the Bumpers sub-section of the Service Manual.
  2. Place the NEW fascia on a clean flat surface.
  3. Important: When using sand paper in the next step, take care not to cut the material of the new fascia.

  4. Using 36 grit sand paper, lightly score a 4 inch x 60 inch (10 cm x 152 cm) area in the center surface below the NEW fascia.
  5. Apply 3M Automix™ 8115 Adhesive, or equivalent, to the prepped fascia surface.
  6. Install support, P/N 25764713, to the adhesive area and let cure for 4 hours. This process may be accelerated with the use of heat.
  7. From the top surface of the fascia that goes under the tail lamp assembly when the fascia is installed, remove 2 rivets from each end of the new fascia.
  8. • Using a 3 mm (1/8 in) drill bit, carefully drill through the center of the rivet.
    • Use a 6 mm (¼ in) drill bit to remove the rivet head.
    • Use a drift / punch or similar tool to remove the rivet body.
    • Remove any debris from between the fascia and the mounting bracket.
  9. Install the new rear fascia to the vehicle.
  10. 7.1. Refer to Fascia Replacement-Rear Bumper in the Bumpers sub-section of the Service Manual. Perform Steps 1-4.
7.2. Install the four 10 mm fascia attachment nuts in order to secure the rear fascia to the vehicle.

    Tighten
Tighten the 4 fascia attachment nuts to 2N·m(18 lb in).

7.3. Complete the rear fascia installation.

Refer to Fascia Replacement-Rear Bumper in the Bumpers sub-section of the Service Manual. Perform Steps 6-12.
