When repairing the Roosa-Master pump, please use the procedure outlined in Dealer Service Technical Bulletin 80-T-8, covering the governor weight retainer ring.

Some diesel owners have experienced problems with certain components of the injection pump, including the governor weight retainer ring, which can be damaged by excessive water contamination of diesel fuel. These problems can be aggravated by the presence of alcohols found in some additives not normally present in recommended diesel fuels.

To help reduce the risk of injection pump damage from water contamination, your Cadillac is designed with a water separation system in the fuel tank to accommodate substantial quantities of water. In addition, your Cadillac also includes an electronic water-in-fuel sensor system to alert the driver to the presence of potentially harmful levels of water in the fuel tank.

Finally, in the interest of continued customer satisfaction with our diesel- powered products, Cadillac will replace, at no charge, the governor weight retainer ring of the injection pump in the event of ring damage occurring within 5 years or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the original service date of the vehicle. This offer is applicable to the above vehicle identification number which our records show you purchased. Cadillac dealers have been informed of this offer covering the vehicles involved.

Cadillac is taking this action to demonstrate its pride in its diesel-powered products and to assist you in achieving the satisfaction your diesel-powered Cadillac can provide.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
