WHEN INSTALLING A DRIVE AXLE OUTPUT SHAFT ON 1980 AND 1981 TORONADO MODELS THE DRIVE AXLE RETAINING RING SHOULD BE INSTALLED IN THE MACHINED GROOVE OF THE SIDE GEAR FIRST, THEN INSTALL THE DRIVE AXLE AS OUTLINED IN THE SERVICE MANUAL. FOLLOWING THIS PROCEDURE WILL INSURE THAT THE RETAINING RING WILL NOT BE DAMAGED. NOTICE: DO NOT PLACE RETAINING RING ON SHAFT AND THEN INSTALL AXLE.
