1981 TORONADO PULSE WIPER SYSTEM: INTERMITTENT CYCLE OF WIPERS ON 1981 TORONADO MODEL MAY OCCUR TURN SIGNAL FOR RIGHT OR LEFT TURN OR FOR SWITCHING TO AND FROM HI BEAM LIGHTS. THE PIVOT SWITCH IS GROUNDING INTERNALLY BETWEEN THE 45F BUSS BAR AND THE HORIZONTAL BUSS BAR TO CONTACT POINTS WHEN MOVING THE TURN SIGNAL LEVER. (FIG. 8) THIS MOVEMENT MAY CAUSE THE FLEXING OF THE PLASTIC HOUSING, ALLOWING AN ELECTRICAL CROSS CONTACT TO THE BUSS BAR. REVISED PARTS WITH THE NECESSARY CHANGES ARE SCHEDULED FOR PRODUCTION APPROXIMATELY MARCH 25, 1981. THE NEW PARTS CAN BE IDENTIFIED BY VIEWING A PLASTIC SUPPORT INCORPORATED OVER THE TOP OF THE 45F BUSS BAR FOR ADDED STABILITY. (FIG.8) HOWEVER, A FIX CAN BE ACCOMPLISHED BY BENDING THE HORIZONTAL BUSS BAR (POINT "A")AWAY FROM THE 45F BUSS BAR BY THE USE OF A .100 DIAMETER ROUND TIP PUNCH. YOU MUST REMOVE THE PIVOT SWITCH FROM THE COLUMN AND USE THE PUNCH TO OBTAIN A MINIMUM OF .040 GAP BETWEEN THE 45F BUSS BAR AND THE HORIZONTAL BUSS BAR. YOU SHOULD STRIKE THE HORIZONTAL BUSS BAR WHERE IT MAKES THE TURN TO GO UNDER THE 45F BUSS BAR.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
