CAMPAIGN: HIGH ALTITUDE EMISSION CONTROL LABEL

GENERAL MOTORS HAS DETERMINED THAT SOME 1982 CADILLAC VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH HIGH ALTITUDE DIESEL ENGINES MAY HAVE BEEN ASSEMBLED WITH AN INCORRECT VEHICLE EMISSION CONTROL INFORMATION LABEL. THE SUBJECT LABEL INCORRECTLY IDENTIFIES THE VEHICLE AS BEING DESIGNED FOR PRINCIPAL USE AT LOW ALTITUDE. THE CORRECT VEHICLE EMISSION CONTROL INFORMATION LABEL IS REQUIRED BY THE FEDERAL CLEAN AIR ACT.

VEHICLES INVOLVED

ALL 1982 CADILLAC VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THE HIGH ALTITUDE (NA6) DIESEL ENGINE WITHIN THE FOLLOWING VIN RANGES REQUIRE THE CAMPAIGN SERVICES SPECIFIED IN THIS BULLETIN (CADILLAC RECORDS INDICATE THAT A TOTAL OF 161 VEHICLES ARE AFFECTED):

C-C9100001 THROUGH C9120644 K-KE680001 THROUGH CE683213 E-CE600001 THROUGH CE606478

CAMPAIGN RESPONSIBILITY

OWNERS ARE BEING ASKED TO INSTALL THE CORRECT VEHICLE EMISSION CONTROL INFORMATION LABEL ON THEIR VEHICLE AS INDICATED IN THE ATTACHED OWNER LETTER. IF OWNERS PREFER TO HAVE A DEALER INSTALL THIS LABEL, THEY SHOULD BE ACCOMMODATED.

DEALERS ARE TO SERVICE, AT NO CHARGE TO THE OWNER, ALL VEHICLES SUBJECT TO THIS CAMPAIGN REGARDLESS OF TIME, MILEAGE, OR OWNERSHIP AND ARE TO CORRECT ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES IN DEALER NEW AND USED CAR INVENTORY PRIOR TO THEIR SALE.

WHENEVER A VEHICLE SUBJECT TO THE CAMPAIGN IS TAKEN INTO YOU NEW OR USED VEHICLE INVENTORY IN THE FUTURE, YOU SHOULD TAKE THE STEPS NECESSARY TO BE SURE THE CAMPAIGN CORRECTION HAS BEEN MADE BEFORE RESELLING THE VEHICLE.

IN ADDITION, DEALERS ARE TO PERFORM THE CAMPAIGN ON ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES AS THEY ARE BROUGHT IN FOR ANY KIND OF SERVICE UNTIL ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES HAVE BEEN CORRECTED.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. OPEN THE HOOD AND LOCATE THE VEHICLE EMISSION CONTROL INFORMATION LABEL ON THE RADIATOR SUPPORT PANEL. THOROUGHLY CLEAN THE SURFACE OF THE OLD LABEL TO ASSURE THERE IS A CLEAN, DRY SURFACE FOR GOOD ADHESION.

2. PEEL THE PAPER BACKING FROM THE NEW LABEL AND INSTALL THIS LABEL ON TOP OF THE OLD LABEL. SMOOTH OUT ANY WRINKLES OR AIR BUBBLES AND PRESS THE LABEL DOWN FIRMLY FOR PROPER ADHESION. CLOSE THE HOOD.

NOTICE: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE OR LOOSEN THE NEW LABEL ONCE IT HAS BEEN APPLIED. THIS COULD RESULT IN DEFACING THE NEW LABEL.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
