SHOULD A CONDITION OCCUR WHICH REQUIRES THAT A CAMSHAFT BE REPLACED ON AN HT4100 ENGINE, THE 16 LIFTERS SHOULD ALSO BE REPLACED AS RECOMMENDED IN THE CADILLAC SERVICE INFORMATION MANUAL WITH THE NEW DESIGN LIFTER. THE OLD DESIGN VALVE LIFTER (P/N5234235), WHICH IS CURRENTLY LISTED IN THE PARTS CATALOG AS THE SERVICE PART FOR THE HT4100 ENGINE, SHOULD ONLY BE USED FOR THE CURRENT 6.0L AND ALL PAST MODEL V-8 GASOLINE ENGINES USED AFTER 1968. THE NEW DESIGN LIFTER CAN BE IDENTIFIED BY THE ADDITION OF TWO MACHINED GROOVES IN THE LIFTER BODY (REFER TO ILLUSTRATION).
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
