Questions have been received from several dealers regarding proper handling of waste materials generated in their day-to-day operations.
It is the responsibility of each Cadillac Dealer to check and follow applicable federal, state and local regulation regarding waste material handling. The common objective of Cadillac Motor Car Division and Cadillac Dealers is to comply with the law and operate in an environmentally sound manner. Cadillac recommends that dealers consult available federal, state and local pollution control and waste water authorities for guidelines.
Waste materials such as paint by-products, used engine oil and coolant, corrosion inhibitors, etc. might be considered hazardous by various federal, state or local authorities. This is particularly so in California, where environmental laws are more stringent.
Dealer handling of waste materials is a local community responsibilty. Dealers are reminded to utilize the services of licensed handlers when waste transport, disposal or recycling is appropriate. Expenses incurred in handling waste materials, if any, are considered to be a cost of doing business to be absorbed by the dealers.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
