SAGGING HEADLINER REPAIR PROCEDURE

MODELS AFFECTED: 1986-1988 ELDORADOS AND 1985-1988 BROUGHAMS SEVILLES

Some Eldorados, Sevilles, and Broughams may exhibit a condition of a sagging headliner. This condition may be caused by the Velcro pulling away from the headliner substrate, or the hook and loop Velcro strips not staying together. To repair this condition use the following procedure:

1. Lower headliner and rest headliner on the front and rear seat back. (See headlining removal as outlined in the appropriate Body Service Manual.)

2. Bond a 1" wide by 36" long strip of Velcro hook material the full length of center and third roof bow using 3M 08046 top and trim adhesive, 08090 super trim adhesive, 08001 super weatherstrip adhesive, or equivalent. Refer to Figure 1.

3. Bond two 1" wide by 36" long strips of Velcro loop material parallel to each other on the headliner backing, aligned with Velcro on roof bows.

NOTE: Bond two Velcro strips parallel on headliner backing will ease Velcro hook-to-loop aligntment, refer to Figure 2.

4. Allow bonding adhesive to completely cure before reinstalling headliner.

5. Install trim.

For warranty purposes use Labor Operation T6335 for the following times: Brougham at 1.5 hours, Eldorado at 1.6 hours, or Seville at 1.4 hours.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
