Several Cadillac models will incorporate composite (or aerodynamic) headlamps for the 1986 model year. To properly aim these new assemblies an adapter will be required for existing aiming equipment J-23500-A previously sold to all dealers as part of the essential tool program. This equipment is marketed through the Kent Moore Automotive division and manufactured by the Hopkins Manufacturing Corporation. While Kent-Moore is one source for these adapters they may also be purchased locally from automotive equipment jobbers.
To order from Kent-Moore, J-25300-203 should be specified:
Kent-Moore Automotive Division Sealed Power Corporation 29784 Little Mack Roseville, Michigan 48066-2298
To order from local sources specify Hopkins Universal Adapter #0203.
Dealers with other brands of equipment should contact the manufacturer for appropriate adapters.
This information will be especially important to dealers located in states with mandatory vehicle safety inspections as the ability to aim all headlamps is a condition of the state licensing requirements.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
