CS-144 GENERATOR-REPAIR REPLACE RECTIFIER BRIDGE

MODELS AFFECTED: 1986-88 DE VILLE AND FLEETWOOD 1986-88 ELDORADO AND SEVILLE 1987-88 ALLANTE

Some 1986-88 DeVilles, Fleetwoods, Eldorados and Sevilles, and 1987-88 Allantes may experience a condition of the "no charge", "battery no charge", or "battery volts low" light illuminated. When standard charging system diagnosis leads to rectifier bridge replacement, the coffect part number to use is P/N 10467052.

When replacing the rectifier bridge in CS-144 generators, it is important to use the new part numbers listed below. The bridge has a new heat sink design capable of greater heat dissipation and uses special avalanche diodes which protect the generator and other vehicle electrical components from high voltages, including transient voltages.

FROM TO

1986-88 DeVille, Fleetwood, 1989774 10467052 Eldorado & Seville

1987-88 Allante (No Change) 10467052 10467052

While the 1988976 rectifier bridge for 17SI generators is the same in size and shape as 10467052, it is not the same electronically and must not be used in CS-144 generators. Damage to the generator and other vehicle components may result.

When replacing electrical parts on vehicles with electronic components, it is necessary to refer to the parts lists to determine the coffect replacement part number. Do not use substitutes.

For warranty purposes, use Labor Operation J4080 at .8 hour with an add of .1 hour to replace the rectifier bridge.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
