EXCHANGE PROGRAM/COVER REMOVAL CLIMATE CONTROL CENTER

SUBJECT: CLIMATE CONTROL DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER (CCDIC) EXCHANGE PROGRAM AND PROTECTIVE COVER REMOVAL

This Bulletin supersedes Bulletin #86-I-27 which should be destroyed.

Procedures for the three types of CCDIC exchanges as well as removal of the protective cover are provided in the sections of this bulletin listed below. CCDIC exchanges may be made through the authorized AC-Delco Repair Centers listed in Table 1.

I. CCDIC COMPLETE ASSEMBLY EXCHANGE UNDER WARRANTY II. CCDIC FACEPLATE EXCHANGE III. EXCHANGE OF MISBUILT CCDIC UNITS IN MISBUILT CARS IV. PROTECTIVE COVER REMOVAL

I. Exchange of Complete Assemblies Covered Under Warranty ------------------------------------------------------ When diagnosis indicates that replacement of the complete assembly is necessary, call an authorized AC-Delco Service Center (see Table 1) to request a replacement unit. Upon receipt of a remanufactured unit from the Repair Center, dealership personnel must submit a 1078 form to the AC-Delco Service Center along with the original unit. The charges for such repairs should be submitted as a Labor Only Warranty Claim for the time to R&R the component. Do not list any part numbers or part's cost, as parts are supplied on a no-charge exchange basis.

II. Exchange of Damaged Face Plates Covered Under Warranty ------------------------------------------------------ A) If the CCDIC face plate is damaged during transportation, call an authorized AC-Delco Repair Center and request a replacement unit. Upon receipt of a remanufactured CCDIC from the Repair Center, the complete damaged CCDIC unit along with a 1078 form should be submitted to an authorized AC-Delco Repair Center. The damage should be properly noted on the vehicle delivery receipt. The charges incurred will be submitted to Cadillac using the standard transportation claim procedures.

B) If theft or other malicious damage to the face plate occurs, the above procedure for exchanging the face plate should be followed, however, charges incurred must be forwarded to the owner.

III. Exchange of CCDIC Units In Misbuilt Cars ---------------------------------------- If the CCDIC does not have a rear defrost button in a vehicle ordered with the rear defrost option or if a non-rear defrost car has CCDIC with a defrost button, it should be noted on the carrier's delivery receipt at the time of inspection. The five digit damage code that should be used is 98366. Call an authorized AC-Delco Service Center and request a replacement CCDIC with the correct rear defrost option. The Repair Center will send a remanufactured unit with the correct defrost option to the dealership along with a bill for $160 for parts plus the cost of the repair which is determined by the individual Repair Center. Upon receipt of the replacement unit, DO NOT SUBMIT A 1078 FORM. Instead, submit any after warranty forms required by the authorized AC-Delco Service Center that has provided the remanufactured CCDIC unit. The complete original CCDIC unit must be sent to the Repair Center. A Transportation Claim must be submitted for reimbursement of these charges using Labor Operation N4172.

IV. Protective Cover Removal ------------------------ Some 1986 and 1987 Eldorados and Sevilles may arrive at dealerships with up to three (3) clear plastic protective coverings on the CCDIC unit. One covering may be placed over the entire unit faceplate with an additional one on each of the two lenses as shown in Figure 1. These protective coverings should be removed during dealer Pre-Delivery Inspection. Service replacement CCDIC units should also be inspected for inclusion of these covers.

Failure to remove the coverings may result in blistering and/or fogging of the plastic covering later in the vehicle life. This blistering/fogging condition will not warrant replacement of the CCDIC component, but simply the removal of the protective covering at that time.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
