CAMPAIGN: LOSS OF HEADLIGHTS REPLACE EPROM IN BCM

MODELS: 1986-87 SEVILLES AND ELDORADOS

General Motors of Canada has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in all 1986 and some 1987 Sevilles and Eldorados. The Twilight Sentinel potentiometer (thumbwheel control) might have been manufactured with electrical contacts which could potentially result in an intermittent headlight circuit. With the Twilight Sentinel System ON, this intermittent circuit could cause the headlights and instrument panel lights to go out. Sudden loss of the instrument panel lights in times of reduced visibility could make locating and activating the manual headlight switch difficult. Sudden loss of the headlights could reduce driver visibility which might result in a vehicle crash without prior warning.

THE MANUAL HEADLIGHT SWITCH (BUTTON) WILL TURN THE HEADLIGHTS ON.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
