A revised transaxle shift control cable adjustment procedure has been released for all 1986 Eldorado and Seville models. This new adjustment procedure should be listed in the Service Information Manual for reference until the first Service Information Manual revisions are received.
In order to provide more positive shifter operation, adjustments should be performed only with the shifter control and transaxle shift lever (manual shaft) in the low or '1' position. Refer to the following steps.
1. Place console shift lever in '1' (manual low range).
2. Loosen cable end pin nut at transaxle manual lever arm, refer to Figure 1, Item 4.
3. Position transaxle manual linkage lever arm in the manual first gear position by rotating lever clockwise to the end of travel. Ensure the console shift lever remains in the '1' position.
4. Hold the transaxle manual lever and tighten the cable end pin nut to 27 N.m (20 ft. lbs.). Tighten by hand only.
5. Ensure freedom of shifter operation in all gear select ranges. If binding exists in any range, recheck adjustment or inspect for a binding cable.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
