ERRATIC FUEL GAUGE READINGS SENDING UNIT REPLACEMENT

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1985-86 DEVILLE/FLEETWOOD AND CIMARRON WITH DIGITAL CLUSTER 1986 ELDORADO AND SEVILLE

Some 1985-86 DeVilles, Fleetwoods, Cimarrons and 1986 Eldorados and Sevilles equipped with a digital fuel gauge, may experience one of the following erratic fuel gauge reading conditions:

1. The fuel gauge will "count down" (decrease in one gallon increments) to a flashing "E" while having sufficient fuel in the tank.

NOTE: THE CIMARRON FUEL REMAINING BARS WILL DISAPPEAR UNTIL THE "LOW FUEL" INDICATOR ILLUMINATES WITH ONE BAR REMAINING.

2. The fuel gauge reads full at all times (1986 C,E, and K only).

To diagnose these conditions, refer to the following fault trees and then chart "A" if replacement of the tank sending unit is required.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
