PAINT INFORMATION (ASSEMBLY PLANT USAGE)
The listings of 1988 paint codes contained in this bulletin will enable dealers to order the necessary paint materials required for effective field repairs.
The list of colors indicates the suppliers ordering codes for exterior, interior, vinyl roof moldings, and paint stripe colors.
Listed below is a current listing of the various Cadillac Assembly Plants and their suppliers. It should be noted, however, that paint suppliers are subject to change.

The paint listed in this bulletin is (or soon will be) available from local paint suppliers.
* Fleetwood stopped production of the Brougham on December 1987 and Arlington will start production of the Brougham on February 1988.
The Service Parts Identification (SPID) label illustrated in Figure 1 is located on the inside of the trunk panel or the spare tire cover. This label contains the paint codes needed to identify the paint materials for field repairs. Note that this label identifies the paint code along with the WA# for that paint code. It is equally important to use this WA# along with the paint code to identify the correct repair materials. This is especially true for codes #17 Pearl Gray and #50 Flax, where the WA# identifies the clearcoat repair material from the dispersion lacquer repair material. Care should be taken to transfer the SPID label or its information if the panel to which the label is affixed requires, replacement. Replacement SPID labels are not available.

EXTERIOR PLASTIC PARTS
All 1987 Cadillacs have exterior parts made of various types of plastic materials that require specific procedures to obtain high quality refinishing results. Included in this bulletin is a chart listing the different types of plastic materials used on 1987 models. For best results when painting is required, determine the type of plastic material from the chart. Then follow the correct paint procedure, depending upon what painting material and equipment is available.

A. GENERAL PAINT PROCEDURE FOR EXTERIOR FLEXIBLE PLASTICS
Polyvinylchloride (PVC), Polyurethane (PUR, TPUR, RRIM, RIM), Thermoplastic Elastomer (TPE), Thermoplastic Polyester (SMC), EPDM Rubber (Supplied in Prime).
There are a multitude of finishing systems available on the market for painting and/or repairing flexible plastic parts. Following is a general outline of painting procedures, including a list of available products. Refer to the manufacturer's literature available through your jobber for details on proper mixing and application.
1. Thoroughly clean part by washing with a suitable cleaning solvent* to remove all surface contaminates.
NOTICE: Previously painted parts that show signs of cracking, peeling or improper adhesion must be stripped before repainting. The old finish may be removed with any commercially available chlorinated solvent stripper or lacquer thinner.
NOTICE: Do not soak parts longer than necessary to remove the old paint to avoid swelling.
2. Scuff sand to an even dull appearance the entire surface to be painted with fine (400 grit) sandpaper and feather edge any damaged areas and rewash as in Step A.
NOTICE: Unpainted parts do not require sanding prior to painting, but should be thoroughly cleaned as in Step A.
3. Apply two (2) thin coats of primer when required per top coat manufacturer's recommendation and allow to completely dry before proceeding. (For most products, approximately 30 minutes).
4. Prepare color coat according to the manufacturer's recommendation and apply sufficient double coats to develop the proper shade. For best results, allow a few minutes flash time between each double coat and allow to completely dry before using.

1. Wash surface thoroughly with enamel reducer. (Do not use wax and grease removers.)
2. Apply primer immediately and allow to dry completely before color coating.
3. Color coat with lacquer or enamel reduced and applied according to the manufacturer's recommendation.
