BIARRITZ VINYL CAP PULLS AWAY FROM THE BODY, REATTACH TOP
Some 1988 Eldorado Biarritzes may experience a condition where the vinyl cap pulls away from the body. This condition may be caused by the adhesive, retaining the velcro strips to the vinyl cap and roof panel, releasing and allowing the Velcro to pull away from those surfaces, refer to Figures 1 and 2. To repair this condition, use the following procedure:
1. Loosen screws across back reveal molding under back window.
2. Loosen cap from quarter panels.
Push-on Nut # 20723147 Stud # 1099948
3. Separate velcro hook and loop from across roof.
4. Take cap off car and place on cloth-covered worktable.
5. At detached or warped velcro on cap, snip into two pieces so it will butt together and lay flat.
6. Clean off old adhesive from back of Velcro and attaching surface with cleaning solvent.
7. Apply Loctite(R) 454 gel, or equivalent to back of velcro as directed:
o Loctite(R) 454 - Apply one drop per inch to back of velcro and apply pressure for at least one minute or until set.
8. Install cap to body.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
