ACCESSORY DRIVE COMPONENTS AFFECTS ON SERPENTINE DRIVE

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1985-1988 C, 1986-1988 E/K, 1987-1988 V, 4.lL AND 4.5L ENGINES

Some 1985-1988 DeVilles and Fleetwoods, 1986-1988 Eldorados and Sevilles, and 1987-1988 Allantes may exhibit a condition of a seized engine driven accessory (such as A/C compressor, generator, power steering pump, etc.) which causes the drive pulley to stop rotating (component seizes). The serpentine drive belt should be replaced regardless of whether or not it exhibits evidence of chunking described in P.S.B. 87-641-119. The heat generated by the belt attempting to rotate a seized component will overheat the rubber to the extent belt breakage or excessive wear may eventually occur.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
