THE REAR POSITION SENSOR MAY BECOME DETACHED FROM THE UPPER BALL STUD. THIS MAY NOT SET A DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE IN THE ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
THE DETACHMENT IS MORE LIKELY TO OCCUR ON HIGH MILEAGE VEHICLES (MORE THAN 30,000 MILES) AS A RESULT OF WEAR BETWEEN THE BALL STUD AND BALL SOCKET OF THE POSITION SENSOR.
IF THE SENSOR BECOMES DETACHED ON A HIGH MILEAGE VEHICLE, THE REAR POSITION SENSOR (P/N 22134863) AND BALL STUD (P/N 3532785) SHOULD BE REPLACED. AS A PREVENTATIVE MEASURE, RETAINER CLIPS (P/N 3538474 - TWO REQUIRED PER VEHICLE) HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED TO HOLD THE POSITION SENSOR ONTO THE BALL STUD. REFER TO FIGURE 1.
POSITION SENSORS ON 1994 VEHICLES WILL HAVE A URETHANE SOCKET AND SHOULD NOT BECOME DETACHED. THE URETHANE SOCKETED POSITION SENSORS WILL BE USED FOR SERVICE ON 1993 VEHICLES. THIS NEW POSITION SENSOR CAN BE IDENTIFIED BY THE ABSENCE OF A LATCHING TAB ON THE BALL SOCKET.
PARTS ARE CURRENTLY AVAILABLE FROM GMSPO.
