Some 1993 Eldorados, Sevilles, and Allantes equipped with the Northstar powertrain may experience driveability conditions that, when diagnosed, lead to replacement of the transaxle. In order to minimize the service and diagnostic problems associated with the inroduction of a new technology, prior to ordering a 4T80-E SRTA a TAS case must be established. This exchange program will start immediately and continue until further notice.
The Exchange Procedure:
1. The technician is required to diagnose the transaxle per any Service bulletins published for the existing condition. When no Service bulletins have been published, or as referred to by the Service bulletin, the technician is required to diagnose the transaxle per Section 7 of the Service Information Manual or Section 6E where codes are present.
2. Write down the transaxle Julian Date. Refer to Figure 1.
3. The technician must complete a CAD-STAR pre-call worksheet (additional forms, number H - 8645R are available at no charge from Helm), then contact the Cadillac Technical Assistance System to verify the diagnosis and establish a TAS case number.
CADILLAC TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE SYSTEM 1-800-CAD-STAR (1-800-223-7827)
In the event that you have a call-in problem with the CAD-STAR system, reference DSIB 92-1-16A.
4. Upon verification of proper diagnosis, the dealer will be instructed to place a VIP order with GMSPO for a SRTA.
5. Replacement transaxles are packaged in heavy gauge returnable crates. Included in the shipment is a return label/shipper and instruction sheet. To ensure proper and timely core charge crediting, complete the sheets as instructed and include them along with a copy of the repair order and CAD-STAR worksheet with the returned part.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
